Picked up a 2010 Speed 3

Congrats on the new purchase! I have had my 08 for three years and love it! Just passed 60k miles yesterday.

The engines aren't weak, just a lot of people making bad modification choices when it comes to throwing parts at it and no tune.

The trans is the same but Mazda lengthened the gearing slightly. If you get a chance to drive a Gen 1 you will notice the difference.

I have always really liked the speed 3 but I'm unsure how I like the new body style. I was looking for one for awhile but ended up buying another tour instead lol

I actually drove a 2007 MS3 just about a week before buying the 2010. I was impressed by the 2007, so much so, that I went and bought the 2010. :D

My buddy had one. Put an FMIC, boost controller, wide-band, 3" downpipe etc but after around 45k miles the turbo seals were starting to go.. Also, stiff motor mounts make these almost unbearable to ride in

I've been thinking of picking up a Gen 1 for sometime now. How are these things with miles? I'm not familiar with these motors though...

NO weak internals at all but the early cars (2007-2008.5) had issues with the turbo and replaced under warrenty without a problem. My buddy Derek just picked up the very same car Chris. As you know or may not know Hectik also has a MS3 (2008) that he bought brand new and its got 60k WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! Weinsean also just picked up a 2007 MS3 too. These cars are AWESOME!

Ahem, that's Wien...

That's a good looking color.

I just picked up a fully loaded 2007 Speed 3 GT. A little dirty with all the salt they throw on the streets.

They are really nice cars and quick to boot. I think three basic mods to start with are shifter bushings (the shifter feels kind of sloppy stock), intake, and dog bone rear motor mount. Congrats on the purchase.

I definitely will be changing the shifter. I'll probably do some basic mods like intake, downpipe, exhaust, and maybe a COBB access port too. :D

Hector seems to be the expert on this, but from what I've read, if you do the downpipe (make sure you do the full downpipe, there's one or two which just replace the upper half) you will probably need a tune. Some people have CELs from certain intakes (filter and piping to the turbo) and also from the DP, requiring a tune to fix. I'm not sure if the fuel pump was updated, but that seems to be a source of problems if you do DP and intake. The dog bone rear motor mount doesn't add much vibration, so I'd definitely add that to the to-do list.

Take a look at www.jamiesplanet.com for cheap bushings, weights, and short throw kit. I'm looking at the stage 2 kit which comes with bushings, weight, and a short throw kit, for $95. He's also got a nice heavy shift knob. Hector's got the bushings and shift knob and it's head and shoulders better than stock.

I appreciate the information and link. I'll take a look. Thanks.

Fitting thread, as I'm heading out in an hour to test drive an '07 Speed3. Always said that's what I'd get when the Pearl finally went. Wow, funny how stuff happens, huh.

This is my first experience with a turbo car, anyone have a good forum for the Speed3? Don't plan on modding it to death, but would like to learn how to do repairs myself. CEG was great for that with my SVT, lookin' for similar one for the new car, should I get it.

Nice pic up!! The car looks awfully familiar to me!! Haa!

Intake, RMM, solid bushings and short shifter plate are on my list for the first mods this spring. I did install the Corksport LED light kit plus a RedlineGoods real leather shift boot that I picked up cheap!

The members are pretty ruthless on MSF for sure!!!! Lot's of info and smug arse comments!

And more good information. I like the LED light kit idea. My former winter beater, 2001 Mazda Protege, the original owner did LEDs to replace every possible light bulb. I wanted to do that to the MS3 since the dash and front doors have hints of blue and have some blue LED background lighting.
