Sean's CSVT #5906 Build Thread !

so first issue i had today was a coolant leak, but it was just the hose wasnt fully sealed so we got that fixed. got eveyrhting hooked up, and crazy sparks from the battery, along with a sizzling type noise. Checked fuses both under the hood and in the footwell, every fuse was good. Theres NO power to the inside at all, not even the pats light flashes....

i have my small ground under the filter from the negative terminal good n tight, theres another ground from where the headlight is on the frame going to the bolt on the tranny, and that bolt also has the actual negative terminal wire grounding with it there and its tight and good as well. Am i missing any other grounds here? Im thinking there has to be a short somewhere......

thanks, im trying to figure out these damn issues so i can get it our of the garage and take good pics haha. I am dying to drive this thing again....been a year

Crazy sparks would tell me there was VERY high current being drawn. So likely a short somewhere... I don't get a spark at all when I hook my battery up. With the car at rest, there should be nearly zero current being drawn. Do you know where the sizzle was? Any smoke?

i sugested maybe a bad main power wire that leads to starter and alt.
i had kinda the same issure a little wile ago and it was just that wire from battery and starter mega fuse and alt.

True, crossed my mind... But wasn't sure if the megafuse would cause an issue with the rest of the electrical system. In theory, it shouldn't... It's a separate feed that only the alternator and starter are on. And then you have two separate lines going to the under hood fuse box and interior fuse box.

If the megafuse was to go, wouldn't that just prevent starting and charging?

I'd check for continuity between the positive feeds and the chassis... Your drawing a lot of current somewhere. But its possible that you won't find anything. That sizzle may have been a wire burning up or possibly a fuse?

i mean the hole power wire mine got all hard inside the rubber coating like it was burnt up you know what im saying? the wire could just be burn up and not functioning properly anymore its just a suggestion thou maybe something to look into my car did the same thing and that was the issue. but good luck sean with figuring this out its gotta be something stupid it always is haha.

all my fuses are good, pulled each fuse and checked it...im thinking either a short, a bad/missing ground or maybe a crossed power/ground somewhere? i mean, we left the harness in the car, so everything just got disconneced not fully removed...so going off the harness,

- the PCM grounding bolt is tight and wasnt removed.

- i have a ground off the firewall, pass side, that goes to the passenger mount

- i have a ground near the pass headlight, coming out of a harness that runs behind the coolant reservoir and p/s reservoir that splits, half into a plug near the PCM grounding bolt and the other half goes down the tower towards say the alternator

- my positive battery hookup goes to one big bolt on the starter

- remote wire hooks up from power to the small terminal on the starter

- negative terminal grounds to the transmission bolt, and has a smaller ground wire bolting to the frame under where the intake filter sits

- i have a ground bolting to the frame under the fuse box, that runs to the tranny bolt? ..But im thinking this might have to go to the negative terminal? its very long and seems like it went onto the tranny bolt. Theres even a little clip on the tranny to hold it it seems...

so anything im missing here that would cause this? Im going to double check the plastic rail on the rear valvecover that attaches the starter cable to the alternator power, but im 99% sure they were both tight. and you cant really screw that up anyways....only one terminal on that rail per side.

Im trying to think of where a ground and a power may have been crossed during install, but I cant think of any off the top of my head. the only other thing i can think of, is on the alternator theres a little tiny grey plug that connects and i think it has a sketchy connection. would that cause this? or do i need to completely follow the wiring harness from the PCM box to the drivers side? Since it was left in the car i know i didnt wire anything backwards or whatever because i didnt touch it.

im also going to try a good battery too, but i want to find out this sizzling/bad smell/sparking issue when the battery gets hooked up. i dont know where the sizzling noise comes from but id assume near the battery.

edit: heres a few pics of stuff...

on this, from my gfs 95, looks like it has 3 smaller grounds. where do each of them connect to? so i can trace mine...

heres my starter....left big one goes to positive terminal, top big one goes to the plastic rail for the alt, and small one is remote..correct?

heres my fusebox...looks normal? no missing fuses or anything that i need?

where could a power / ground be crossed ?

Your sure you hooked up to the correct terminals? Not trying to sound like a smart ass lol. Just my black cougar has a battery with the posts one way and the red cougar had a battery with the posts flipped. That battery was dead when I got it and I almost hooked it up backwards when i dropped the new battery in. haha

I'm pretty sure it was the right way, lol...but I guess its always possible. Ill check it later after work, and possibly try with my gfs battery to see what happens

Ok so just to go over it, the alternator has the plug off the harness, and then the power wire. It runs to the black plastic rail where the fuse in the center and another cable on the other side, running to the top bolt on my starter (if bolts are a triangle, alt goes to top, remote is bottom right and positive batt terminal goes to bottom left?) ...

just fixed your sizzle and spark issue for sure i already know it before you msg me back on fb and say so. sense you had your power wires on the starter wrong haha

hahahaha yeah, my buddy did that not me. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

thanks to fogarty john, MONSTOUR IS ALIVEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

turns out my power cable from battery was on the starter solenoid ground terminal, instead of with the alternator (duhhh) ...fixed that, hooked up the battery and had nice power to my car, go to click over and bam, single click and DEAD BATTERY! dammit! ...so swap to a spare one i had here, turn the key and fuel pump primes...go to crank and PATS light flashes rapidly (ECU, d'oh) ...so i swap to my old ECU and BAM, cranks and turns over! She sounds soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good, just like the youtube videos :D

im just excited shes alive!!!

Glad you got her up and running again! Hope all goes well. As far as ur power steering leak, use a new crush washer from ford, then get it tuned again, just to be sure everything as far as air to fuel is right! Anyway now if I can figure out my electrical issues I might not sell her .. If I can't, off she goes and she has a sister ready to replace her, my new white 04 mustang GT only has 32,580 miles I'm now the second owner. Anyway glad to see her alive and doing well!

lol Well, that, too.

But slammed rolling shots again!

buddy....just wait

thanks! u were alot of help and i appreciate it all!!

Congrats!

Throttle issue could be the 65mm tb. Was never tuned for that correct?

I'll be going to Steeda for a tune tomorrow, I can let you know how it goes if your interested in a dyno tune. Your welcome to watch if your free...

Thanks lol, its been toooo long without hearing this thing haha. As for the TB, it shouldn't throw off the tune that badly, its gotta do with the slack for sure. I'm going to reupload my tune and see if that helps as well.

Goodluck at Steeda, I work all day so I cannot come or else I'd be there for sure. Film it! What are your expected numbers?
