Hard-core CEG'er
Replaced my alternator this weekend - had the the old out and the new one installed in around 2hrs. It's a simple job - I took off the y-pipe and had my brother bring home some tools; I asked him for some 6 point metric stuff and some extensions. This is what I had for extensions, made this just a cake walk with the CV as well.
The old alternator was a Ford reman... I had to use a vise grips on the shaft to get it to spin, it made horrible squeaking noises. I can't believe it didn't lock up in the car
I felt like more punishment and wanted the A/C working in my car again. I swapped out the condenser I picked up and headed to the store to get a new battery and refrigerant. Started pressurizing the system and where the hoses get close down by the compressor they rubbed a hole i one of the lines... :nonono: I traced the line to the compressor, and it goes into a block to the low pressure side where it runs across the core support, to the expansion tank, to the wheel well and eventually to the backside of the motor - I am not replacing all of that for A/C
Sunday I was game for even more so I rented a spring compressor and yanked the strut out of the rear to fix my rubbing issue. The spring is fine, the strut is shot and I still don't know why the tires rub now when the old ones didn't at all. The strut had no rebound and at 162K needs replacing.
