yup

I put a mono 14 lbs line on my bait cast and it is casting much better. I also have been able to figure out about where I need to have the line tension to keep whip lash down while still being able to cast. Now that the weeds and lilly pads came up the last week or so, I have been catching some decent bass.

I live an hour north of there, and we got some good rain...maybe around 3-4 inches....but they got a stupid amount in 5-9 inches in 24 hours. At least after today, it looks like sun for 10 straight days to help things dry out. I can't believe how bad the streets are messed up though.

Found a small leak from the driverside axxle seal. Picked one up from apple vally ford and found a qrt of royal purple syncro max to top it off.

So for the sake of talking about nothing....

For some reason I can't keep my mind off chaning up the whole car situation. I think I'm losing my mind because one day I want to get rid of the SVT and then five minutes later I think I would never sell it. My DD is an 06 Passat which I've really started to like a lot more over the last year and I kind of want to get into the modding game with that car, but that would mean possibly getting out of the Contour.

Basically I either want to turbo the SVT or get into the VW thing for a while. The nice thing about the Contour is it's kind of rare and there's a lot of support through the forums. I don't think a lot of people mod B6 Passats so that's kind of appealing to me also.

I guess my plan so far has been slight mods to the Passat and keep the Contour as a rolling project. I know some of you guys have gotten in and out of Contours so what brought you back?

I do the on again off again thing with my Contour all the time. Somedays I don't even want to look at it, other days I can't imagine ever getting rid of it.

I think if I were to turbo mine it would be even more of a dust collector personally (is that possible? hahaha). Even after you get all the issues worked out, it's going to break more often and have stupid gremlins that will bother you forever. At least that's what I've seen out of the majority of heavily modified cars.

I'd love to sell all three of my vehicles and buy one nice one; but then I know I'd be a big wuss and wouldn't want to drive it in crappy weather. Then I'd be right back to where I am now with driving beaters.

Good point about the turbo and collecting dust. Right now I drive the Contour 2-3 days a week when weather permits, I bet that would change with a turbo. The full 3.0 is by no means boring and slow so is it really worth it to go turbo?

I too have thought about ditching both cars for something newer and that leaves me trying to decide what to go with. I have absolutely no idea what I would get as a replacement. I would also have a hard time piling the miles on my nice new car too, I drive about 80 miles a day.

Which newish car would be worth all your vehicles? I have a really hard time with that question.

Like RLracer said, if you go turbo then it will most likely sit or break or have gremlins and be unreliable...... I have tossed around the idea for years to do FI or leave it 3L. The more you mess with it, the more goes wrong. ENjoy the ride and drive it whenever you can. I havn't upgraded to another car from the contour because what is out there that offers more than what I already have for any reasonable amount of money....? Nothing.

Keep it. Mod the VW a little to keep it interesting if you need to.

What he said. I wish I didn't sell the Pudmobile. Wife hated riding in it though. :( Keep it. There isn't much out there that offers what a nice 3.0L can do, at least not in a "reasonable" price. Enjoy what you have.

That has a lot to do with what keeps me interested in the SVT, it's hard to justify taking on debt for something that might not be be a huge improvement over the Contour. I kind of ended up with the VW when we got my wife's new car/family vehicle, so in reality I kind of ended up wanting to mod the Passat just becuase the car kind of wound up as my DD. But now it grew on me a lot. Maybe it's worth skipping the turbo and doing a little intake and exhaust work on the SVT, and a little cosmetic work.

That's funny, my wife isn't crazy about riding in the Contour, at least not with the coils installed. I kind of like the fact that the car rides rough and is a little loud, it gives it a little more of a raw feel compared to the quiet smooth feeling of the VW.

I think because you question modifying either car, you should skip modifying them to begin with and do what the majority is saying and just enjoy what you have.

My guess is you're a car guy like the rest of us and deep down there is another car/truck out there that really does it for you. I would work towards finding that. Even if its a complete basket case, your level of excitement to work on it will be far higher than that of a car that gives you the feeling of, "should I really be doing this?". The biggest problem in customizing is the "might as well" bug. He bites us all! What would start out as a simple exhaust turns into, "I'm in here already, might as well...install a turbo...smooth this...french this...add this...delete this..." Before you know it you've got $5k, 10k, 15k... into a car that no matter how you slice it, it's just another Contour or just another Passat.

I'm such a perfect example of this that it's sad. I've always wanted a '66 Cadillac or a '60 Starliner. Before modifying my contour a caddy popped up on craigslist for $8k and a week later a Starliner for 10k. I tossed around the idea, but I talked myself out of it thinking 8 to 10k is too much money to spend on a car that just sits. Since then I've got 20k into my contour because of the might as well's. I hardly drive it and the idea of unloading it makes me sick to my stomach. ;)

Excellent points Crazytalk! I never thought of it as the "might as well bug" but that's a great way of putting it. I don't regret the SVT project and I'm sure there's some minor things in it's future. Honestly if I could get the SVT in a little better cosmetic shape and put some wheels on the VW I could easily hold out for something a little more exciting.

I guess I need to find my way into an E39 M5......someday.

Brand new F150, crew cab, 6.5' box, ecoboost (or 6.2L), 4x4.

Problem is, F150 would probably cost 35k and all my vehicles combined aren't worth squat!:laugh:

I know someone with an ecoboost F150 and apparently it's pretty amazing. Those are awesome trucks.
