What did you do to your Contour today?

Re-tint completed. Full it up with $3.90 a gallon premium. Just to watch watch the check engine turn on 5 minutes later. Already got an appointment tomorrow to bring it to a shop for the speedo tomorrow.

Dropped the car off with my mechanic to have my Baer front kit, FSVT rear conversion kit, and Koni w/ H&R's installed. Pretty stoked. Dyno tune soon to come too!

Started installing some 07 mustang GT takeoff mufflers. Got them both just about all tacked up. Need to tack the pass side hanger and then pull it off for final welding. Can't wait to see how it sounds.

I took off the AC bypass the previous owner installed. Re-installed a new dryer, pulled out the completely plugged orifice tube, and will head to the local junk yard tomorrow to find some original bolts so I can re-install the new compressor I had to purchase. Hope to have some cool air by tomorrow night.

Well, what I did to it yesterday. I was driving up to Reno, NV from the bay area with two friends to attend a model airplane contest and to check out the air races. As I was making my way past Sacramento on I80 one of the front tires suddenly deflated and then disintegrated, Lewis Hamilton style. For a brief moment I thought that I had hit a washboard surface on the road, which was torn up pretty badly. Then we watched the entire tread fly off to the side and it was obvious what had happened. This happened at about 70mph, and the lane was blocked by barriers on either side, so there was no shoulder to pull off onto.

There we were, crawling along at 20mph in the fast lane with everyone trapped behind us. I had to limp along for about 2 or 3 miles until the barriers ended and the lane opened up. I slowed down a bit more as I made my way to the right side of the freeway. The car was shaking like crazy with a smell of burned rubber, and the ABS and brake warning lights lit up. I thought that I had destroyed everything on that side, 'cause that's what if felt like. When I found a big enough piece of shoulder I pulled over to check out the damage, expecting the worst. Well, of course the tire was history but the fender looked ok, and the rim was still intact.

I had been rolling on what was left of the tire beads, so the edges of the rim weren't even scratched. A CHP officer pulled up behind me and escorted me to a safer area so I could change my tire. On closer inspection, everything inside the wheel well looked fine, but the rim was slightly bent in a couple of places. One of my friends got the jack and spare out and started to jack up the rear of the car. We decided to put the spare on the back and the good back tire on the front. The best thing about this whole disaster is that the CHP officer ended up changing both tires! He said he was having a slow day and I guess he felt sorry for 3 old guys! I'll be going to my local Fix-Rim dealer first thing tomorrow morning.

I washed her and finally got around to putting on the battery tie downs that I had made for the NW meet several months ago. uploadfromtaptalk1410667742519.jpg

Now I just need to make the rest of the engine bay look as clean as that battery strap!

I cleaned the engine back up and gave it a good wax job. I hope to get some pictures this week for the calender.

It wasn't technically today, but has been done in the past few weeks... Got Blue towed, in my garage and up on stands, reinstalled my LED gauge spotlights, painted my gauge bezel, calipers/brackets/Passenger MM/PS pump plate and pulley, replaced PS pump and alternator, got some more filler work done to the lip spoiler, stripped some paint on the drivers side (getting ready for bodywork/respray), picked up a Mystique hood and test fitted so I can make a template for cutting the Contour hood. The next few days will be figuring out some electrical issues and doing body work/paint stripping. And debating on which color I want to paint it... The blue (misted over black) on the PS pump plate or the blue (full spray) on the pulley

Sorry to hear about your tire! Hopefully it held air til you got to a tire shop.

Well, no more than I drive it, that wasn't a problem. I had driven it to work on a Sat. and I went out several days later and it was sitting on the rim. I ordered a new tire online and took the wheel off the car. I have a tire shop a couple of miles from my house.
