I am buying mirko splitter mold

yea most plastics need to be melted to a liquid then they are injected into a steel(or aluminum, not sure) mold. Hence there term of, injection molding. Some of the molds are crazy looking. Most if not all fiberglass OEM vehicle body panels are all injection molded. VERY $$$$$ unless you are a car manufacturer and make thousands and thousands at a time. Which I MIGHT be able to sell a few thousand splitters. hmmmm NOT lol

I think he was talking about 2 part casting resins.

not you, yamaha racer 686

Why would I respond to you and say I think HE was talking about something when addressing you?

I think yamaha racer 686 was talking about 2 part casting resins, which could be used with in this kind of situation, but it would require some work, and they wouldnt work very well for this application. Would be expensive, and not very durable.

But yeah, thermoplastics, which would be the ideal to make a splitter out of, wouldnt work in this application without injection molding equipment..... so yeah, you were right about that, you would need to sell a few thousand just to make up the cost of the mold.

Alright CEG, time to step up. GB on real plastic mirkos, same material as your bumper. Only need 3000 people to sign up at a price of $450 a piece:laugh:

I know I just wanted to be a poop. :blackeye:

So yea. I think I understand what you mean by two piece. . .
Would that be, for example: I make a mold of the top of a hood in C/F then the underside of the hood then mold them together some how?!

or am I completely wrong?

what?

idk what you are talking about when you mention 2 piece. I was talking about 2 part casting resins. Basically 2 resins you pour together to make plastic.

It would be a pain in the butt and not worth your time thinking about.

really has anyone just called them and asked?

really has anyone just called them and asked?

Go up and read my post. It isn't profitable for Mirko to make these for us anymore. Plain and simple. I guarantee that's why they don't make them for us anymore. I doubt they'll partake in another group buy, which is why they want to sell the mold in the first place.

Guys

It is fun reading this inane thread, but really has anyone called the company and asked the very obvious question about a group buy? It would be alot less work to have the company build the parts for a group buy (provided they are willing to). It has been said the company doesn't build them anymore because it is not profitable but YOU will NEVER know until you pick up the phone and ASK!!!!

He wasn't talking about the 2-part resin, he was talking about the thermoplastic molds.

I don't know what the hell you are talking about and I was sort of asking you but apparently you didn't get my hint! Question marks mean a question not a statement.

I've called the OWNER of the company and he does not want to make anymore. He seems to be getting hit hard by the economy and has zero interest in making splitters.

nope i wasnt talking about casting resins. when i was looking around for different materials to make my sideskirts i came across a plastic that is two part. mix togeather and pour(like casting resin)

if you want to make the splitters stronger. putting woven cloth sandwitched between mat will do it.

So can you pour this two part plastic stuff onto fabric, replacing the resin? is it clear? doubt it but hey!? It would be S T R O N G.

But yea this post is supposed to be geared towards the buying of the mold. Once the mold is purchased then we can reopen material suggestions. ya ya ya????

I'll have to back out of this one. As much as I'd like to buy the mold, I have other priorities in my car world that have to take the front burner. GL with this one.

UPDATE.
Mirko is refunding my deposit on the mold so the mold is available.

Someone please jump on this before a skouche buys it and charges us 550 a piece for fiberglass.

Anyone have a good relationship with that Poncho fella in San Diego that makes hoods and trunks? Get him to buy it and we can get a GB together to purchase a minimum of 5-10 so he can make a little money.

Thanks.

Sorry it didnt work out.

Don't hold your breath. I'm not gettin it. Bagged is bluffing.

Who knows who will get it now.

I know you're not, as you said it in your post earlier. I'm just saying, I'm just waiting for someone who can actually do something with it, pick it up and show some progress. I'd love to pick me up a mirko piece.
