Vortech build

I have a clearance issue with the old oil cooler/ water pump hose. I deleted the svt cooler when i first did my swap, it seems the routing isnt going to work anymore, does anyone have a pic of a non svt's setup?

Can you turn the hose elbow 90º and route the heater line up under the water pump and throttle body? Probably best to replace the molded heater hose with a length of regular hose from the auto parts store. I also deleted my oil/water-cooler/heater and it greatly simplified the heater hose routing. I got rid of most of the molded heater hose, still had to use hose elbows on the heater core nipples at the firewall.

If that won't give you the clearance to the jack shaft, you may have to pull the water pump housing, cut off the hose nipple, tap the housing for 1/2" pipe thread and install one of these:

From here, about 3/4's down the page:

Get used to hitting roadblocks with this sort of thing. I've been putting aftermarket parts on car for over 30 years now, and it's rare when I don't have to fit-file-cuss or re-engineer something.

I got the water pump issue handled, thanks though! I'm in deeper ••••s with my suspension now. Hnnng

My other clearance issues are: Front 02 sensor against oil cooler sandwich plate.. Hoping i can get away with using a smaller 02 sensor like stock. My Bosch is a fatty... and the crossover tube

i think that is one of the reasons i went with a remote oil cooler. ill look at what i did tonight ad let you know

Thank you, you're being very helpful :D

Though i don't think there is any room for anything. I feel like if i put another hose in this engine bay it might explode like confetti.

ok, hope this makes sense, i can draw a picture if need be since you cant see most of it if i took a picture. im going to go from the lower rad hose up since itll make more sense typing it that way

lower radiator hose ->pipe (3-4" long) -> T fitting (1/2") -> (top of T) 90* street elbow-> short pipe -> hose that connects to crossover pipe just before the passenger side mounting point

Side of T fitting-> reducer -> 45* street elbow ->pipe (4-5") into lower coolant reservoir tank hose

hope that makes sense. if i remember right i didnt have to cut anything other than the crossover. everything was an off the shelf piece from home depot.

and you have plenty of room for a meth injection kit. poke poke, nudge ndge

Yes i do know. In fact now that you say it i can see it in a picture i have of your car. Wish i had a welder, i could make it work so easy without frankenstiening a bunch of pipes.

for sure, but if i remember right i built this while it was in the car so welding wasnt really an option

A smaller O2 sensor should fix the issue. I have clearance issues with my WR headers with a bosche sensor because it hits the fan housing. I'm not sure why those stupid bosche sensors are so huge.

Yeah mine cracked my fan shroud. Looking at 99mystiques front headrr and jageds the bung comes out at a different angle then mine as well. Ill try a different 02 first.

I hate everything about installing this thing. What a nightmare. EVERYTHING is fighting me. Gotta pull the header again, no chance in hell any 02 sensor is fitting at the angle the bung is at now. OR maybe get a remote oil filter like jaged has... IDK where the hell i would fit it..... Yep i'm doing that.

Also :censored: :censored: :censored: AN hose ends twice. Glad i don't have anymore of those to do.

Edit. I'm not doing that. I'm spinning the sandwich adapter, hopefully.

Got most of the front end figured out.

Last weekend svt 0611 lent me a big hand we got the idler figured out. Got injectors and eplugs in. Gapped .30 found a bad lim gasket. 99 mystique figured out what vortech did for the coolant crossover to make it fit. Going to cut and bring it to work to weld once i get the rust free one.

Heat exchanger is mounted and got most of the plumbing done.Started tigtening everything down on the maf and intake side. Cold air side doesnt line up for crap like i planned.. more plumbing needed. More waiting on parts.

Does anyone want any pictures of anything else along the way? Im on the home strech.

Dude, I finally remembered to look at the crossover tube from my svt and its just a stock one.
thanks for checking, but I'm not sure how that can be. I know there is a vortech p/n for it, and the stocker won't fit.

Either case i can make the one I'm getting work.

Thanks Steve.

Most everything is ready to go, no belt exsists that i need. SOOO going to space out my alt some to snug it up. What a pain.

Got the crossover pipe installed, radiator and fans are ready to go. Still need to run wire to the trunk, ( procrastinating it )got all the relays setup for the intercooler and fuel pump... Engine and supercharger plumbing is all sorted out, need to tighten it down some stuff..

Still need to figure out how im going to mount my remote terminals, and make one more terminal end.

Other than that, i need a base tune.

I got a new toy in the mail too, since my old oil pressure gauge crapped out.

Its a innovate mtx d, does oil pressure and temp. Its pretty slick, built in alarms, adjustable.
-However im not sure where im going to put the oil TEMP sender, its pretty long... (see pic) i was thinking getting another 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and putting it in the other freeze plug in tge rear head (the other is the oil feed) but im not sure if its still too long...?? Thoughts? Is it accurate to get oil temp @ the head?
The OIL TEMP sender im going to use a short piece of an hose where the oem idiot sensor light goes, but a tee won't have enough length to make that work. So i cant think of a way to use both there.

how much is the belt out by ? ... what length do you need ?.

Can't you drill another hole in the vortech idler pulley plate .... or even make an adjustment slot ?

Friggin with the alternator, might add extra complications .....G.

The larger belt 80" slips on and has 0 tension the next smallest belt is too short and cant even get it to slip on.

Im not worried maybe a few mm of washers to the cougars alt bracket will keep it snug.

More concerned where to put that temp sender ಠ_ಠ

Not going to spend 50$ on a belt, i'll make the 20$ corvette belt fit :p

That one will be too short too, i'd bet.
