yup

What was it? 2002 X-type Sport? Was it a 3.0L manual? Those are harder to come by. There were a lot more that were 2.5L's. I loved the one I had back in college. It would be a great winter car. They are really cheap now.

I installed a new exhaust installed on the Cougar yesterday. I purchased a 2.5" stainless, borla, single exhaust from "Mandrel Exhaust Systems" along with their 2 bolt high flow cat section. I told them to keep the truck tip so I could save some cash and use my split borla rear section (2.25", borla resontators, rolled angle cut 3" tips). My main goal was to quiet the car down a bit. Previously the idle was fine but anything above 2k rpms was way too loud. I had to modify the new exhaust a bit to get it to work. The piping was too long so I had to cut it down by about 1" to help clear the heat shield around the tank. One of the slip fit sections was poorly expanded (not enough) so I had to mess with that for about 10 minutes. Connecting the new exhaust to my existing split rear section was a challenge but I was able to get the new 2.5" exhaust to slip into Y section and clamp it all down. I picked up some good 2.5" stainless clamps from NAPA so it will last. The cat section bolts are galvanized. I guess the Fridley Home Depot doesn't carry larger stainless bolts anymore. After some research it appears I should get stainless vs. the galvanized so I may run out and get those from Ace Hardware.

Results: Exhaust is near stock sounding = too quiet. Oh, well I'd rather have it too quiet then too loud so I'll deal with it. People will be able to hear me when I answer the phone in my car via my hands free calling deck (Pioneer with mic on visor). :)

Here is a pic from the exhaust site (everybody likes pictures!). I subtracted the tip and saved some cash. Imagine the rear borla section on your own.

I also added a backup camera to my Pioneer deck from amazon:

Camera image is great (night vision works great). It turns on when the reverse lights turn on. I have a double din Pioneer DVD deck so the image is displayed on that. The deck has some issues with flipping over to the camera input. It works as it should when I put it in reverse but it flips over to the camera input every 30 seconds no matter what gear I'm in. I checked the voltage on the signal wire going to the deck and the voltage is correct. I think it is an issue with the camera power, sense line, and reverse lights all being connected together.

Bump... did intake gaskets on my truck last night, found one of the IMRC rods disconnected and the butterflies stuck open on that side.

No idea how long it was like that, but it runs so much better now. Split port intakes for lyfe.

Replaced the battery on the Fusion yesterday. Lousy stock ones. Only 500 cold cranking amps and the warranty is only 3 years OR 36000 miles. So no warranty for me! And that bugger was dead as dead can be...I have normally had really good lucky with Motocraft batteries, but those have always been the ones you buy from Ford, not the ones in the vehicles.

I've been thinking about picking up a new motorcraft for my F150, they have been good to me as well. I don't mind Fleet Farm batteries either though, that's what I just put in the Cougar and the MIL's truck.

I have a Sears Diehard Platinum in the fish house and really like that one, but it was like $200

I just replaced the battery in my wife's 09 Mazda3. I guess it had a good run on the factory battery, but looking at the CC value it was way under powered. It only had 280CC. The new Napa premium one I put in has 580CC.

Manf's seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper. Doesn't suprise me that your Fusion battery went out. Probably under powered for what it needed to be. Especially in your neck of the woods.

Hey Chris do you have any pics of your double din install with the Pioneer? I was thinking about upgrading to something like that in my car. Ws even considering a carputer.

I considered a carputer at one time as well. Just find it hard to go that route when something like a Nexus 7 can do most if not all of what a carputer can do.
While I currently don't have a head unit, I have a networked media center for the kid.

Raspberry pi (running raspbmc), and old 6in dvd screen, RAVPower RP-WD01, 2Tb portable harddrive.

eventually the Raspberry Pi will used in home and a Nexus 7 will replace it.

The Cougar accepts a 1.5 din. It can be made to accept a 2 din deck with some minor trimming inside the dash. The opening is large enough. It won't help you with the SVT though.

I don't have pictures at the moment. I could get some but I'm guessing you want info on how to get one into the SVT not a Cougar.

Oh I know they are different I'm moving the AC controls down to the lower storage DIN. I was just curious what the Cougar had for a double DIN setup as I figured I could take it and make it work in the new opening.

Greetings everyone! I feel like it's been forever since I've been on the site. Glad to see people are still around on here.

I started auto service technology last semester at school. I'm pretty excited about it and am liking it a lot so far. I'm starting to feel like I actually know something about fixing cars.

I've started looking for a new vehicle the last few days as my truck is at the point that I can't afford/justify dumping so much money into it for parts and gas. I went and looked at one yesterday that I'm hoping works out. If that doesn't, I'm not sure what I'll end up with.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Well the vehicle I was looking at worked out. I have to say I'm glad I did it. For the age, it's impeccable.

These are the photos from his Craigslist ad. This is exactly what the car looked like when I picked it up.

It's a '99 GT, but is NOT the turbo GT. I don't need turbos anyways.

So far I'm pretty happy with her. It's hard getting used to all wheel drive and a flat engine. However, the turning radius is better than I would have thought and I love not worrying about two wheel drive.

This was when I got to school later today. The guy lives up in Two Harbors, so I had to go up and get it. Salt and snow suck.

You will love it. The only thing is there is no traction control, so be careful with learning how to drive it on the snow. The rear end might want to come around on you. Wife had a 02? Legacy GT wagon. I liked it a lot. Just make sure the timing belt has been changed. They are bullet proof and reliable as can be....that and they go threw anything the winter will throw at you!

There is also a good site with locals from MNsubaru.com

Fortunately the guy I bought it from did the timing belt, idlers, water pump, valve cover gaskets, and plugs and wires. He also changed the transmission fluid and filter.

And yes, I've experienced the rear end wanting to break loose already. But it's part of the fun of the car.

I joined MNsubaru last night. Just waiting for approval on it. Seems like a decent group on there too.

We loved my wifes 96 Impreza Outback. Put like 40K miles on it, nothing but oil changes and a battery, sold it for the same amount we bought it for. Since he already did all the hard stuff, and it is obviously taken care of, that should last you a loooong time. Can I ask what you paid for it? I really did like that generations body style and I did want a sedan vs a wagon...but the wagon was much more practical. And IIRC, the GT's had a LSD in the rear.

Yes I've heard that they have an LSD. I haven't yet verified that. I'll likely try to talk to a Subaru mechanic at the dealer here. I don't know much about it and want to make sure I know all the little things now. As far as cost, I payed exactly what book was on it. Normally I refuse to pay book on a car as most don't meet the criteria. However, I felt the car is worth it. I love it so far. First thing I did was buy a new Sony head unit to put in it. My old Sony just wasn't gonna work.
