I am buying mirko splitter mold

It honestly seems that, since this is basically the only Contour forum, veteran members can, and do, talk to "noobs" however they want. They can say whatever they want, do whatever they want, etc. etc.

And if the "noob" gives them sh*t for it they just ban them.

Like this is some d*mn glorious realm or something.

I somehow doubt the price is going to be much better from an individual to make and sell mirkos then for someone that has done so for awhile. That is unless they are already setup in the business.

have you guys seen the box the mirkos come in? Im not even sure it fits in a contour. imagine the cost of that box to safe ship a mirko and then the cost of shipping a box that large.

it basically sounds like people want who ever buys the mold to do the work for free .... thats not going to happen.




edit: the box is 67x22x9 ... can't be a cheap box to get.

THANK YOU! did you see how many want to donate say $50 to the purchase of the mold THEN get a splitter for free!? come on.

Given it would be a GREAT deal but I would not give them away. It would cost me out of my pocket.
 
brapple, the shipping on these things is insane yes, but I could picture an individual manufacturing as a hobby would be a bit more feasible than a company trying to manufacture them with such a low sales volume while maintaining their overhead. I wouldn't expect bagged or anyone else would be able to offer them at a substantially lower price than Mirko gave us, nor do I expect a higher quality product. But, if there is as much interest in buying splitters as this thread suggests, it would be a good idea to try and arrange a group buy and see if we can get Mirko to make a batch. I bet they would go for it if they could manufacture a little pile of them. The way they are set up, they can probably make a run of 10-15 without feeling bad.

I talk crap to veterans and dont get banned:shrug: You didnt get banned did you? Part of what you are experiencing is the hierarchy in any forum or social organization. People assume noobs dont know as much as the people who have been there for a long time, and veterans feel they deserve a little extra respect for the amount of time they have been a part of the community. More often than not, that is all correct.

You werent even getting made fun of. He was trying to help you. The donation thing is a dumb idea because people would insist they have partial ownership in it, blah blah blah. It would be never ending headaches for you. Plus, you are only going to get extended so much trust, more if you have earned peoples trust. Also, just going by appearances, you had a good idea, but I dont think you would be able to handle the stuff involved in it. Fiberglass parts manufacturing is a more complex ordeal than you may think.

From what I've researched I would estimate a splitter around 300 shipped. That's with the least expensive, good quality components.

It's already a never ending headache for me. :laugh:

But my offer still stands at the prices i've mentioned.

I am still open to contributions and a large discount on the finished product.

At least until, IF, someone would like to take over. If that doesn't happen by my deadline then I will most likely get my deposit back. And then the mold will be vulnerable to whomever wants it. :)

You are in CA & mirko is in CA, Right? Rent a truck or trailer and bring it home dude!

Many ripoffs have taken place via CEG (not necessarily by upstanding members) so forgive the doubters. I had considered this purchase idea a few years ago myself or making a mold from a Mirko ( kinda stealing though, Not for me really) and/or making up molds for Pre98s and non SVTs. I'd say in your position buy the thing/s outright get um' home. I like the idea of "Group" financing, but you see the results.
Making these parts is gonna be time consuming and expensive regardless of good intntions!

I would probably sell 2.... maybe 3... Then I would run out of people who would be willing to pay for them.

but it would be awesome.

To bad I am broke till after the holidays.

That's what i had planned. I will be near Mirko in early December so I wanted to pick up the mold then.

That's what I have been saying. I want to make one for myself out of C/F and for whomever is wiling to pay for it. I wouldn't even want that much just pay for materials and shipping. That's it. IF they donate to the purchase of the mold.

I figure I could at least sell 3-5 out of NON-C/F after the mold was purchased.

If i could make front fenders, hood, and maybe even front bumper and splitter in C/F do you have ANY idea the weight savings would be beans?
And if you just are "F'ing" the colors then paint it to match your car.

Between all of those parts which most are metal

The weight savings would be 75lbs easy.
 
I say somebody else who has the time and money to go after this go for it....

I mean I have the money to buy the mold completely. But I would be the douche to use the mold for a one off CF Mirko and that would be the end of mirko's

This is def a great investment for anyone who can actually off the mirko at a good price. But then again... they will have to make their money back for the 500 and sell more.....

If I were to elect anyone or throw a couple bucks towards this I would go with NPG, I also think many would agree with me! A business that is well established and for our community as well as others. I am just unsure if NPG would be willing to do this or even if they have the ability to create the mirko's in a better manner or even CF!

If it's a matter of buying the mold....... I'll buy it. I'd produce them in kevlar, carbon......whatever. I'd give CEGers a big discount of course. I have the resources to do it.

I don't want to step on anyones toes........
