Vortech build

to be an all the way jackass, i have the counter clockwise unit that mounts on the pulley side of the motor also, dual charger action has always been on my mind.

What kit do you have? Is it one of the kits I built or that one off kit which was a slight copy of mine, which was on a red Cougar?

Beans, I know it probably doesn't matter now but if you look at my pictures. Toward the end of my build I found a 90 degree coupler that fit on the V9 which I trimmed down to angle the intake down into the fender. I think the Coupler was about $50.

For those running a stock MAF. My stock MAF maxed out around 340whp. I picked up a lightning MAF which fixed my issues but I never had a new dyno. My Cougar was demoted to winter duty a few years ago so I sold off my kit and the car is NA again. I since swapped in another 3L because of engine issues; likely supercharger related. It started to push oil through the PCV and it was burning oil.

If I were to do it again I would find a self contained supercharger. The system complexity goes down if you don't have to worry about oil lines. I originally had rubber lines with clamps on for the feed/drain and that is a bad idea.... Mine blew off once and coated the engine bay in oil. I swapped to braided lines right after that.

it was off a focus. came with the 8 rib pulley and bracket to match. i need to make a bracket for the contour.

the boost does spike and when youre going that fast it is hard to watch the gauge.

i am considering boring or building a block w forged internals etc. ususally just bolted it on and never had any bottom end issues. i have no idea where im at w the motor that was connected to the supercharger. it was a used 3l, no idea its history and i need to rebuild it completely from 0 to be sure of whats going on. i cant make a decision on pistons to use. for the clutch i usualy keep a clutchmasters in it 3+ incase i decide to bolt it back on when i feel like it.

the paxtons are self contained. it does simplify things.

i went back and forth on the drive gear change. i sort of keep it available for both supercharged and na. figured id deal with the wheel spin. whats your philosophy on the gear change?

i think it is a necessity on boost to make it a lot more driveable, and even with just the 3L. that said i find myself juuuuuuust running out of 2nd a lot on courses. on the stock FD i think i could make it just to 3rd and be ok leaving it there

Yeah gearing deinately depends on whAt you're trying to achieve power band wise. What speed does the top of second take you to? Stock
Is something close like still have to throw 3rd for 60

That's not too far off what mine is now. I can spin into 2nd if i try hard. Raised the limiter to 7200 or so.

•••• you winter i want to drive a contour again.

Since we are talking about gear changes, my cougar isn't boosted but the 3L puts down some decent power, it has the 3.5fdr and I really dont like it much. Seems like it takes forever to get out of first. With 245 tires and the 3.5 I would need much more power to get them to spin in first. Its either going to get boost at some point or the stock fdr put back in.

what size rims ? what profile tire ? what speed in each gear at 6500rpm ? ..... G.

17x8 wheels, on 245/45/17. I would have to make note what speed each gear goes to next time I drive it which could be today, I think first goes to about 40.
